Greg Le Gear

Greg is from County Clare in Ireland where he started riding at the age of six at riding schools and local stables.

During school Greg worked for Irish international show jumper and breeder, Sheila White in Limerick. There he groomed, rode and helped at shows.

After college studies and taking his BHS exams, Greg went to work for top Irish international rider and Olympian, Denis Lynch who is based in Germany. He worked for Denis for 4 years where he groomed at some of the best shows across the world, and was also given extensive opportunites to compete young horses in  both national and international shows upto 1.35m.

After his time in Germany he went to manage a string of horses for Old Lodge Stud and their rider Adnan Al Baitony who was based at Hickstead. Their string was predominantly stallions from novice to Grand Prix horses. Again  part of his job was to back and compete the young ones.

It was at Hickstead he met Shane and Chloe Breen and, after 2 years working for Old Lodge, Greg left to become stable manager for Breen Equestrian.

During his time at Breen Equestrian Greg was one of 8 finalists countrywide to be picked for British Showjumping's talent programme 'Step up to Gold'. This development programme was set up for riders with the talent to make the step up to 1.40 and international level. He was trained by Matt Lanni during the year long programme and had the opportunity to compete at CSI2* level both in the UK and Europe.

Greg worked as stable manager for Breen Equestrian for 3 years before he set up his own business GLG Equestrian which is based 2 minutes from Hickstead showground. Greg continues to work for Breen Equestrian as Stud Manager which involves responsibility for the the Breen stallions, brood mares, foaling and looking after all the youngsters before they go to the main yard at Hickstead to be broken.

GLG Equestrian has been running since Spring 2017 and is going from strength to strength and Greg has got some exciting young horses to produce alongside his older rides. Greg competes horses from British Novice level to 1.40m level, and has competed at CSI2* level. In November 2018, Greg became a RCVS & DEFRA Approved and Qualified Artificial Insemenation Technician by taking a course and exam at Twemlos Stud.
